A program of Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, Camp Blue Hawk programs residential camps for children and teens, ages 9-17, with type 1 diabetes. Our camps focus on increasing campers’ confidence and diabetes self-management skills, facilitating the development of meaningful friendships between campers, and providing respite for families of youth with type 1 diabetes.

The mission of Camp Blue Hawk is to promote learning, enhance self-esteem, and foster independence in diabetes care in children and teens with type 1 diabetes in a safe camping environment.

A long-time dream of Dr. Kenneth Copeland, Camp Blue Hawk was established in 2015 out of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center. In its first year, Camp Blue Hawk had 20 campers, and operated under the Cavett Kids Camp for children with chronic illnesses. In 2016, Camp Blue Hawk programmed its own camp for the first time with 48 camp attendees.
